Grievances and workplace concerns
How workers and organisations should raise and handle workplace concerns.
A grievance is a workplace concern raised by a worker about treatment, decisions, working arrangements or another matter connected with their role. The concern should be described clearly, with relevant facts, dates and the outcome sought.
The organisation should identify the proper decision-maker, avoid conflicts of interest, consider the relevant records, give the worker a fair opportunity to explain the concern and provide a reasoned outcome. A review or appeal should be available where the governing rules provide one.
Where the internal route does not resolve an eligible dispute, Acas early conciliation may provide an impartial route before Employment Tribunal proceedings.
