Discrimination and unfair treatment

Addressing concerns about unequal, discriminatory or unfair workplace treatment.

A worker who believes they have been treated unfairly should identify the decision, treatment or practice complained of and why it may be discriminatory or inconsistent with the applicable equality and workplace framework.

Managers should take concerns seriously, preserve relevant records, avoid retaliation and use the organisation’s grievance or complaint process. Equality questions may also engage the Office for Equality and Opportunity or another competent body.

Acas provides impartial employment-relations assistance; it does not replace the tribunal or equality regulator where a separate legal route applies.
